An Easy Start to Homeschooling with Sarah Hurley
On this Episode of the Korner Cast we are discussing Homeschooling!
I am joined by Sarah Beth Hurley who is a former staff member of the Four Wind Society founded by Alberto Villoldo, owner of Heartlight services - a private energy medicine practice that focuses on healing, behavioral issues, and trauma in children and families.
Under Alberto, Sarah developed the Indigo Aztec Method and Indigenous Wisdom School for Children. This led her to publish a children's workbook, Heal Your Feelings, giving children tools to empower themselves to heal their own emotional blocks.
Sarah is also a former foster mom. Her work with foster children inspired her to start Switch Life which is a nonprofit that provides free skateboarding lessons and a goal-setting curriculum. When at home, Sarah enjoys mothering her five children, spending time in the kitchen, and knitting. And the very best part of all this, Sarah is also my sister!
We discuss curriculums, structures, organization, and how to find what works for you and your family. When it comes down to it, you know your child best - this empowers you to help your child learn.
We discuss removing the expectations and preconceived notions surrounding homeschooling and recognize that homeschooling can take on many diverse forms.
Sarah’s three steps to start homeschooling are:
- The first step is to figure out if you plan on sending your child back to public school or doing homeschooling for all of school
- Figure out how your child learns best so that you can choose a curriculum
- Get organized - build your child’s education around your lifestyle
If you are considering homeschooling know that you are not alone, let go of the overwhelming expectations, and embrace the adventure!
As always if you have any questions please feel free to DM me, I see you, I hear you, I am with you!
